A former student of Miriri Secondary School, Ongwae Mekenye, has appealed to alumni to visit their former schools and bond with teachers and students, emphasising the importance of alumni engagement in guiding the next generation. He believes that young people often lack role models, leading them astray.

Mekenye, accompanied by Beatrice Nyaboke, another old student, visited Miriri Secondary School and interacted with students, sharing meals and exploring the compound as part of strengthening alumni engagement within the institution.

Alumni Engagement to Boost Character and Talent Development

He urged the school principal, Rose Otwori, to organise social activities like soccer tournaments and cultural festivals to help students discover their talents, noting that active alumni engagement can expand learning beyond academics.

“Success in classwork alone is not enough; it should be cushioned with focus on character growth,” Mekenye advised students. He promised to visit the school regularly and mobilize his colleagues to support development projects and deepen alumni engagement initiatives.

Principal Otwori appreciated the visit and welcomed the proposal to revive the Miriri Secondary School alumni association, saying stronger alumni engagement would boost academic excellence.

The school performed well in 2025 KCSE exams and is set to improve this year. She expressed optimism that continued alumni engagement will strengthen institutional growth and student performance.
