Kabete Poly holds 6th graduation ceremony, confers 2561 granduands  with certificates

The Kabete National Polytechnic on Friday February 20, held its 6th graduation ceremony whereby 2561 graduands were conferred with certificates in various courses.

The Colourful event was graced by the Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba who was flanked by the Principal Secretary from the State Department for Technical Vocational and Education Training (TVET), Dr. Esther Thaara Muoria.

Speaking during the ceremony, CS Ogamba said the 6th Kabete National Polytechnic Graduation Ceremony stands out distinctly from the previous five, saying that for the first time, awards are conferred upon graduates drawn from diverse learning pathways – the formal and the recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) contexts.

“This demonstrates our firm commitment to flexibility, inclusivity and lifelong learning. It also marks the launch of annual graduation ceremonies, reinforcing our institutional stability and growth.” He said

With the theme of this year’s graduation, ‘Developing Work-Ready Graduates through Flexible, Competency-Based Training for Local and Global Markets,’ Ogamba said resonates strongly with the aspirations of Africa’s Agenda 2063, Kenya Vision 2030, and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

“The Theme calls upon us to reimagine Kenya’s future through the deliberate development of market-ready skills and to harness the power of TVET in addressing pressing challenges while unlocking Africa’s immense potential.” He said

He commended the Polytechnic for its commitment to skills development as the foundation of sustainability, progress, and decent livelihoods, saying through strong national and international partnerships, the Polytechnic continues to advance excellence.

The CS urged the 2026 graduands to go outside and put their skills into practice saying that they are battle-tested and market-ready.

“As you transition from Polytechnic life to the world of work and enterprise, take your mark and go out there and make your mark. Listen to your inner conviction, value your mentors, and lead with integrity and purpose.” He said

TVET PS Dr. Muoria on her part said the government is committed in investing in modern training infrastructure and equipment so that trainees learn using tools and technologies that reflect real workplace environments.

She added that the TVET department is strengthening the quality of instruction through the recruitment and upskilling of trainers, ensuring that our institutions are staffed by competent and industry-exposed professionals who can effectively transfer relevant skills.

“Through the TVET Curriculum Development, Assessment and Certification Council, curriculum development has been strengthened to ensure that programmes remain flexible, competency-based, industry-aligned, and responsive to emerging labour market demands.” She said

Muoria further said that the government is also expanding access to training through increased capitation, infrastructure expansion, and financial support to trainees, enabling more young people to enroll in and complete technical training.

Dr Muoria reiterated that the continued promotion of partnerships between TVET institutions and industry is important, saying that it ensures that graduates leave institutions ready for employment and enterprise.

She encouraged graduates to approach the future with confidence and determination. “The skills you have acquired are valuable tools, and the discipline you have developed during your training will serve you well in your careers and in life. Continue to learn, remain adaptable, and take pride in the work that you do.” Muoria said.

The Kabete Poly chief Principal Dr. Patrick Wokabi Muchemi speaking during the event also congratulated the graduates saying that the institution has instilled in them skills that are market ready and of high demand globally.

He added that the institution has made major milestone this year in the expansion of the Recognition of Prior Learning programme, enabling hundreds of skilled artisans to earn nationally recognized qualifications and supporting the formalization of skills within the informal sector.

He said that the Polytechinic has also strengthened industrial attachments, modernized workshops and laboratories, enhanced digital systems, and established an Income Generating Unit, including a flagship Electric Vehicle charging station, to support institutional sustainability.
