The Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists’ Union (KMPDU) has suspended the strike notice it had issued to have all public medical schools in the country shut down over payment of clinical services allowances for doctors lecturing in the institutions.
“The strike after the strike notice that ought to have commenced this morning is suspended in the interests of further progressive engagements between the union and yourselves,” the letter, signed by Secretary General of KMPDU, Dr. Ouma Oluga says in part.
The suspension follows intense consultations between the Ministry of Education, Vice Chancellors’ Committee and the Union, KMPDU over the matter.
The suspension is contained in a letter, Reference No. KMPDU/lt/37/18, dated 15th Feb, 2018, to the Cabinet Secretary of Education, Amb. Amina Mohamed, her Ministry of Health counterpart, Ms Sicily Kariuki, Vice Chancellors of all Public Universities, and Chairman of the Inter-Public Universities Council Consultative Forum.
The letter is copied to the Cabinet Secretary for Treasury and the Secretary General of University Academic Staff Union (UASU).
