The Kisii County teachers yesterday voted out all the incumbent Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) branch leadership following the hotly contested elections held on Sunday, February 15, 2026.
All branch officials were replaced with new faces beginning with the outspoken Executive Secretary Joseph Mogire Abincha, who was defeated by Jared Abel Kimyanchui.
Others who lost their positions include Laban Ouko who lost to Dennis Manage as the new branch Chairman. Everyone Peter was crowned the new branch treasurer.
Union members who spoke to Education News shortly after the elections said that Joseph Abincha and his team lost to the incoming officials because he did not defend Junior Secondary School teachers against the alleged ongoing mistreatment from their head teachers. “He kept quiet and never intervened to save this lot of teachers despite raising their grievances to the outgoing team,” said one of the Junior Secondary School teachers from Nyamonema.
Teachers also accused him of stirring internal antagonisms with his chairman over supremacy, failing to unite the members and sorting their problems.

Other incoming officials are Steve Ogechi as Vice Chairman and Geoffrey Nyantika who relinquished the Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KESSA) organizing Secretary Kisii branch post to become the new KUPPET Assistant Executive Secretary
Irene Omwenga and Wilfred Ontita took the positions of Assistant Treasurer and Secretary Secondary, respectively as job Najorii took the Secretary Tertiary and irene Mariga to present Gender .
Other new faces in the union include Simeon Ongaga organizing Secretary, Lydiah Kebati 1st Assistant Gender Secretary, Peter Loimit 2nd Assistant secretary representing people living with disability, Zipporah James 3rd Assistant Gender Secretary(Youth) and Duncan Ondieki as Assistant Secretary representing Junior Secondary Schools.
