Fresh concerns have emerged over the safety of learners at Mogoiwet Primary School in Emurua Dikirr Constituency after strong winds swept away classroom roofs, disrupting learning and renewing calls for permanent infrastructure.

Area MP Johana Ngeno described the incident as unfortunate and disheartening, noting that it reflects a recurring challenge facing the school.

He said urgent measures are needed to ensure pupils study in safe and secure classrooms.

The latest incident occurred while learners were away, sparing them from possible injuries.

However, parents say the repeated destruction of classrooms by heavy winds has created fear and uncertainty within the school community.

In April 2025, Tamalinye Koech, the Deputy Governor of Narok County, supported the construction of new classrooms after strong winds destroyed four mud-walled structures at the school.

Following that incident, the Narok County Government allocated KSh 400,000 to facilitate reconstruction.

Despite the intervention, community members argue that the temporary structures put up remain vulnerable to harsh weather conditions.

They insist that lasting solutions can only be achieved through the construction of permanent, wind-resistant buildings.

The parents have now appealed to both the national and county governments to prioritise Mogoiwet Primary in future development plans.

They emphasise that learners deserve a safe, conducive environment that ensures uninterrupted education.

Leaders in the area have pledged to work together to mobilise additional resources to secure durable infrastructure.

The latest destruction has once again highlighted the urgent need for long-term investment in school facilities, especially in regions prone to extreme weather conditions.
