Rongo University Chancellor Eng. John Mosonik honors Professor Wilson Kipruto Cheruiyot, Dean of the School of Science and Informatics at Taita Taveta University, celebrating his mentorship, visionary leadership, and lasting impact on Kenya’s academic and technology landscape.

Rongo University Chancellor, Eng. John Mosonik has expressed profound sorrow over the untimely passing of Professor Wilson Kipruto Cheruiyot, a distinguished scholar and Dean of the School of Science and Informatics at Taita Taveta University.

Professor Cheruiyot’s death has left a significant void in Kenya’s academic community, where he was celebrated for his mentorship, integrity, and dedication to excellence.

In his tribute, Eng. Mosonik described Professor Cheruiyot as “a humble leader and a pillar of mentorship, whose work elevated both people and institutions.”

He noted that the late academic’s influence extended far beyond Taita Taveta University, impacting students, colleagues, and the broader field of education.

Professor Cheruiyot was a visionary whose guidance inspired many to pursue higher standards in both scholarship and personal development.

Born and raised in Sotik, Bomet County, Professor Cheruiyot pursued advanced studies in Computer Technology and Applications in China.

He returned to Kenya equipped with rare expertise, which he used to strengthen academic programs and ignite his students’ intellectual curiosity.

His life exemplified discipline, vision, and a remarkable global perspective, and his contributions to education continue to serve as a model for aspiring scholars.

Eng. Mosonik recalled their recent collaboration on leveraging Artificial Intelligence to uplift rural communities through the South Rift ICT Hub (Kimawit).

“His sudden departure has silenced a brilliant mind,” he said, adding that Professor Cheruiyot’s ideas were poised to shape the future of technology and innovation in the region.

On behalf of the academic fraternity, Eng. Mosonik extended heartfelt condolences to the late professor’s family, colleagues, and students.

Though his earthly journey has ended, Professor Cheruiyot’s legacy will endure through the minds he shaped, the vision he shared, and the paths he helped set in motion.

His dedication to education and service remains a lasting inspiration to all.
