Mount Kenya University (MKU) has granted unconditional admission and hostel accommodation to 27-year-old Duncan Kibet, ending his 11-year wait to join university.

Kibet gained national attention after trekking more than 250 kilometres across Narok and Ololunga to raise funds for his education.

The admission, to pursue a Bachelor of Education at MKU’s Thika campus, was confirmed on February 8, with the university also offering hostel accommodation as Kibet finalises his admission requirements.

Kibet, raised by a single mother, deferred his own university ambitions in 2015 to support his younger brother, who had scored an A- (minus) and secured admission to Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology.
