Students have been asked to learn about resilience to help them cope with emerging issues, such as food shortages, the loss of loved ones, or accidents. Kisii County Governor Simba Arati was speaking to the Board of Management, staff, and students of  Magena Girls Secondary School in the Kenyenya Sub-county, which suffered a fire outbreak that left more than 40 students without beddings and other personal effects.

The Governor donated assorted blankets, bed sheets, metal boxes, and water packets to help the affected learners continue their lives.

He brought light moments to the students when he told them to close their legs and focus their minds on quality education, which will help them get good husbands in the future to stand up for their families.

“Your bodies are precious, keep them safe from boys who mislead you, and you will get good husbands like me if you complete your education successfully,” he said.

The Governor narrated his personal example, saying that he sacrificed self-indulgent desires throughout his university years, and that he is now a leader, and asked them to remain determined to achieve anything they may want.

Kisii County Assembly speaker Philip Nyanumba, Bokimonge Ward MCA Amos Onderi and Bombaba Ward MCA Beatrice Makwabe flanked the governor.

Philio Nyanumba, an old boy of Magena when it was a mixed school, told some of the students not to be discouraged by their weak home background, but instead to embrace education as the only equaliser between the poor and the rich.
