The Health Department in Narok, in collaboration with the Disease Surveillance and Response Unit, has officially announced the end of the cholera outbreak that hit parts of the county last year.
Officials attributed the success to comprehensive strategies and the cooperation of residents in adhering to health regulations.
Education stakeholders expressed relief but urged continued vigilance. “The outbreak raised serious concerns about the safety of our children in schools,” said Ann Silantoi, highlighting the fear among parents and teachers.

Emily Naisho also pointed out that the acute shortage of water in the region contributed to the outbreak, urging authorities to improve water supply as part of long-term preventive measures.
“While we welcome the end of the outbreak, more elaborate measures are needed to ensure our children remain safe and healthy,” Silantoi added.
Last year, seven people lost their lives to cholera, while many others were hospitalized due to the disease.
The Health Department reports that no new cases have been recorded in the past 28 days, a development, official describe as encouraging. “This shows that our strategies and community compliance are working, but we must remain vigilant,” a health official said.

The recent outbreak, which began in late September 2025, saw over 240 reported cases and at least six deaths, primarily in Trans Mara West and South sub-counties.
Authorities explained that the outbreak was driven by contaminated water and food, prompting a massive vaccination campaign that reached over 239,000 people, alongside strict sanitation measures to contain the spread.
The Health Department continues to urge residents to follow health regulations and maintain hygiene practices to completely eliminate cholera from the county.
