Trans Nzoia Teachers who left the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) seeking greener pastures in the devolved county governments are undergoing torments after the expiry of their job contracts.

This comes amid county restructuring of administrative departments with new heads. It is reported that those teachers who had surrendered from the commission are finding it difficult striking renewal of the contracts with the change of office holders of the devolved units.

During the inaugural terms of the county administration, TSC had sanctioned their teachers to be seconded to the county governments but the commission has since strapped the policy not to admit teachers back to the payroll once they quit to work elsewhere.

TSC was hit hard during the advent of governments in 2013 where most secondary school principals moved to county governments where they were appointed as CEC members, Chief Officers COs and directors of departments. The jobs enjoyed higher perks of salaries and allowances above to their previous earnings within the TSC.

Some of the teachers who are in dilemma are Julie Kichwen and Jackson Amboka whose contracts came to an end, leaving them under the mercy of the County Public Service Board (CPSB) as their employer.

However the hammer spared the Education CEC member Janerose Mutama whose contract is expected to end alongside the current term of the government in 2027. She had previously served as the vice treasurer of the KUPPET Trans Nzoia branch which meant she officially moved away from her former employer. The other teacher CEC member Patrick Gicheru joined the government after his official retirement and is serving his lap ahead of 2027.

And just recently, the hammer continued to hit on the teacher Chief Officers upon the expiry of their working conditions and terms.

Those who were hit include Kennedy Etyang, Jane Masika and Dr Roselyne Nasiebada as Natembeya continued to restructure his government with the creation of more positions for COs.

But the ghosts of the TSC have refused to leave its former teachers: the Chief Officers in early years are adamant to leave. They are seeking to remain with the county and assigned duties in other departments.

According to them, with little chances of being readmitted by TSC they would rather remain with the county government as they agitate for prospective jobs.

For example, Sammy Sichangi who was the chief officer for Governance is seeking to change the position of an employee to an employer. Sichangi is among of those pursuing to be hired as a member of the CPSB and has been shortlisted for the interviews to be conducted by a special panel appointed by Natembeya.

The CPSB is also set to advertise for more jobs as the former teacher CEC members and COs stream to place their applications.
