The Bungoma National Polytechnic has officially released the programme for the 2026 Students Governing Council (SGC) elections, setting the stage for a structured, transparent and participatory student leadership process.

In a circular dated January 22, 2026, and issued by the Dean of Students, the institution outlined a detailed election calendar that will run from late January to early February 2026, in line with the Students’ Union Constitution as amended on July 1, 2024.

According to the programme, the electoral process will kick off on January 29, 2026, with the receiving of applications for key election officials, including student commissioners, clerks and student security officers. On the same day, verification of the voter register will commence and continue throughout the process to ensure credibility.

Aspirants seeking various student leadership positions will collect and return their nomination papers on January 29, followed by the vetting of clerks and student security officers. The vetting of aspirants is scheduled for January 30, 2026, and will take place in the boardroom.

The campaign phase will gain momentum on February 2, 2026, designated as Public Education Day, during which students will be sensitized on the electoral process through notice boards and digital platforms, including WhatsApp, Facebook and the institution’s website.

On February 3, 2026, aspirants will face the electorate during Podium Day, where they will deliver public speeches behind Blocks F, G and H. This will be followed by the highly anticipated Voting Day on February 4, 2026, with polling scheduled from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Lecture Hall 1. Tallying, counting of votes and the declaration of elected leaders will be conducted at the same venue.

The process will culminate in the swearing-in ceremony of the elected student leaders on February 6, 2026, at the Administration Block front, starting at 9:00 a.m.

The administration emphasized that during voting, students will be identified using their college ID and national ID, and only those duly listed in the voter register will be allowed to participate.

The release of the programme signals the institution’s commitment to democratic governance and student participation, as Bungoma National Polytechnic prepares to usher in a new crop of student leaders for the 2026 term.
