The County Government of Bomet has established a safe house to enhance security, psychosocial support, and access to justice for survivors of gender-based violence (GBV).
The facility, located within Bomet Police Station, will provide a safe and secure environment for survivors as investigations into their cases are conducted.
It will offer psychosocial counselling, legal assistance, and medical support, while also playing a critical role in preserving evidence to strengthen prosecution and ensure justice for victims.
Bomet Governor Prof. Hillary Barchok reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to protecting GBV survivors, particularly women and girls, and supporting them throughout the legal process.
“It is unfortunate that Bomet County is one of the hotspots of GBV in the country. As a county government, we are taking concrete steps to address the situation. This facility will support victims as they seek legal redress in court,” said Prof. Barchok.

The governor noted that his administration will collaborate closely with security agencies to curb the rising cases of GBV, warning that perpetrators will be dealt with firmly.
“We will not tolerate gender-based violence in this county. Anyone found engaging in this vice will face the full force of the law,” he added.
Bomet Police Station Officer Commanding Station (OCS) Cyrus Kitetu urged residents to desist from resolving GBV cases at the community level, stressing the importance of reporting such incidents to the authorities.
“We call on the people of Bomet to report GBV incidents to the police. We will take stern action against perpetrators and caution parents or community members against trying to resolve such heinous acts privately,” said Kitetu.
The establishment of the safe house marks a significant step towards ensuring safety, justice, and comprehensive psychosocial support for GBV survivors in Bomet County, as authorities intensify efforts to combat the vice.
