A group of teachers known as Mwalimu Kwanza has warned the current KNUT Baringo branch leadership against changing the union election date. The group, led by Keneth Chelagat, claim the officials altered the date from March 7, 2026, to January 31 without consulting teachers.

‎Chelagat, a candidate for the executive seat, called the move “mischievous, illegal, and inconvenient,” saying it’s aimed at disrupting the elections. The group has written to KNUT Secretary General Collins Oyuu, urging him to ignore the change.

‎The teachers also point out that KUPPET is holding elections on the same day in Marigat, which could cause logistical issues. Mwalimu Kwanza is urging teachers to ignore the date change and participate in the elections on the original date, March 7.

‎”We’re ready to face challenges facing the branch, and once elected, we’ll prioritize teachers’ interests,” said David Chebii, a candidate for chairman.

‎The group has also revealed plans to create a new union branch for Baringo South and Tiaty constituency if elected.
