Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale has urged parents to take a proactive role in raising morally upright children, warning that drug and substance abuse remains one of the greatest threats to learners’ wellbeing.

Duale stressed that education must extend beyond academics to instill values, discipline and character formation, and called on communities to rally behind President William Ruto’s New Year action plan to safeguard the future of young people.

Speaking on Saturday, January 3, during the official opening of Starlight View Academy & Integrated School in Parklands, Nairobi, Duale emphasised that schools, parents and communities must work together to shield children from social vices that undermine their academic progress and personal growth.

He reaffirmed that education is not merely about knowledge but about shaping attitudes and skills for an ever‑changing world.

The newly established institution, dedicated to academic excellence, spiritual growth and character formation, offers primary, secondary and Islamic studies, including Tahfeedh‑ul‑Quran. Already, 80 learners have been enrolled, with capacity for more than 600.

Duale noted that institutions such as Starlight View Academy must serve as models of holistic education, nurturing learners who excel academically while upholding discipline, integrity and community responsibility.

Duale said the school’s integrated approach will contribute to Kenya’s broader educational vision of producing well‑rounded citizens equipped to meet future challenges.
