Basic Education Principal Secretary Julius Bitok said the number of requests for review of Grade 10 placement rose by 77,000 on the second day of the exercise.

The number of requests seeking review of Grade 10 placements under the Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA) has risen to 177,000 on the second day of the seven-day review window, the Ministry of Education (moE) has said.

Basic Education Principal Secretary Julius Bitok confirmed that by Wednesday, December 24, 2025, more than 30,000 requests had already been processed.

The review exercise, which aims to allow parents and learners to reconsider senior school choices, is scheduled to run for 7 days.

PS Bitok has asked parents and candidates to make the most of the remaining review period to make informed revisions to their senior school selections.

On Tuesday, December 23, 2025 — the first day of the review window — PS Bitok revealed that the ministry had received more than 100,000 applications from parents and learners seeking changes to initial Grade 10 placement decisions.

Speaking during a selection assessment exercise at Naivasha Boys’ Boarding School, the Principal Secretary said that by 4.00 pm on Tuesday, over 2,000 requests had already been reviewed and approved, with thousands more undergoing evaluation.

“So far, we have received over 100k requests for revising pathways as of 4 pm today, the ministry has approved over 2000,” PS Bitok said.

He explained that applications involving Category One (C1) schools are handled centrally at the ministry headquarters in Nairobi. In contrast, reviews for schools up to Cluster Four (C4) have been decentralised to field officers to speed up processing and reduce congestion.
