Machakos County Woman Rep, Joyce Kamene, has donated food items to over 800 vulnerable people in the region. The items were given to needy people in the county as a palliative to mark the Christmas celebrations.
Her donation comes amid the challenges posed by rising food prices nationwide.
Kamene, while distributing foodstuffs yesterday at the Salvation Army grounds in Kawethei, Kangundo Sub-county, said the initiative was aimed at reaching out to the less privileged in the communities during the Christmas season.
She stressed that the death and resurrection of Christ signified God’s love and sacrifice for mankind, stressing the need to extend the same love to the vulnerable in society at all times.
She noted that she aimed to help vulnerable people through her empowerment outreach to alleviate their suffering, mainly due to current economic hardships.

”The humanitarian gesture is part of my aim to reach out to the less privileged and the vulnerable people to alleviate their suffering in their time of need, and it will continue as a way of improving the well-being of the indigent in society,” the lawmaker added.
The MP also called on wealthy individuals to assist the needy during the Christmas season and beyond to emulate Christ’s love for humanity by reaching out to the less privileged in society.
One of the beneficiaries, Mrs Ndunge Mutua, thanked the MP for extending the love of Christ to people during Christmas celebrations and always.
”We are grateful to our county Woman Rep, Kamene, for remembering the vulnerable people and giving us food to eat during this Christmas and several other times. May God bless her always,” Ndunge said.
The items distributed include cooking oil, rice, chapati flour, and seasonings, among others.
