Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa has announced that the county government will begin issuing bursaries to Grade 10 learners at the start of the new academic year in January 2026. The governor made the announcement during Jamhuri Day celebrations held on December 12 at the Kakamega Approved Grounds.
Barasa commended Grade 9 learners for their strong performance in the recently released Kenya Junior Secondary Education Assessment (KJSEA) results, noting that many candidates attained the Exceeding Expectations grade under the Competency‑Based Curriculum.
He also praised head teachers across the county for their commitment in preparing learners for the assessment.

The governor said the county will conduct a re‑vetting exercise to ensure that bright but needy students benefit from the bursary programme once it begins. He emphasised that the initiative is aimed at supporting learners as they transition into senior school under the CBC structure.
Barasa further pledged to work closely with all elected leaders to strengthen education standards in Kakamega County, saying unity and collaboration would be key to improving learning outcomes.
