Police officers from Laare Police Station, in Meru County have arrested six individuals believed to be involved in a horrifying gang rape that took place on December 1, 2025, in Laare Town, Igembe North Sub-County.
The incident reportedly occurred during a traditional circumcision procession when a young woman was attacked.
The members of the public quickly alerted authorities after witnessing the crime.
Responding swiftly, police found the victim in a state of severe distress, with her clothes torn and her dignity violated. She was immediately taken to Nyambene Hospital for medical care.
Acting on forensic evidence and intelligence gathered during the initial investigation, officers conducted targeted raids in the Irinde, Lubwa, and Kiarama areas.
The operation led to the arrest of six suspects: Dennis Mwirigi, Ismael Gichuge, Elijah Muriki, Isaac Ntomauta, Joseph Marete, and Phineas Mutali.

These latest arrests come after three other individuals were taken into custody on the day of the incident.
All nine suspects are now in police custody, undergoing processing ahead of their arraignment in court.
Authorities have assured the public that the investigation is ongoing, with detectives working tirelessly to identify and apprehend any additional perpetrators linked to the case.
The police reiterated their commitment to ensuring that those responsible for this brutal crime are brought to justice.
Laare Police Station has urged anyone with information related to the incident to come forward, emphasizing the critical role of community cooperation in ending sexual violence.
