A landmark education initiative is set to uplift 30 top-performing students from Uasin Gishu County, as a Mega Harambee fundraiser takes centre stage in Eldoret.
The event, organized by aspiring governor Dr. Dickson Chemalan, is designed to sponsor outstanding scholars from all six sub-counties for advanced studies at Anglia Ruskin University in the United Kingdom.
Scheduled for November 30, 2025 at Eldoret Polytechnic, starting at 9:00am, the fundraiser has garnered significant attention from both political leaders and community influencers.
The presence of high-profile figures underscores the widespread support for the initiative. Among the dignitaries expected to attend are Governor Dr. Jonathan Bii, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, PS for Immigration and Citizen Services Dr. Belio Kipsang, and PS for Basic Education Amb. Prof. Julius Bitok. Members of Parliament including Oscar Sudi (Kapseret), President aide Farouk Kibet, and former legislator Caleb Kositany, as well as several county officials, are also slated to grace the event.
Speaking ahead of the Harambee, Dr. Chemalan emphasized that the initiative is motivated by the need to empower talented youth who face financial constraints but have the potential to excel on a global stage.

“These students have demonstrated exceptional academic performance, yet their families cannot afford the high cost of overseas education. This programme will give them the opportunity to gain world-class knowledge and skills,” Dr. Chemalan said.
The organizers believe that if successful, the Mega Harambee will mark one of the most impactful educational sponsorships in Uasin Gishu’s recent history, providing not only academic opportunities but also exposure to international networks and learning environments.
The event is expected to draw wide community participation, reflecting the county’s commitment to education as a catalyst for social and economic transformation. Supporters say initiatives like this are critical in nurturing the next generation of leaders and innovators.
The public and well-wishers are encouraged to follow updates on the KeNews platform as the event unfolds, with hopes that the initiative will fully meet its ambitious goal of supporting all 30 scholars.
