Irbaan Primary School in the Maasai Mara, Narok County has officially opened its newly rebuilt girls’ dormitory, restoring a critical facility that was destroyed by fire several months ago.

The reconstruction was undertaken by The Manji Foundation in partnership with Twiga Tours, following an assessment that revealed the urgent need to provide safe boarding accommodation for the affected learners.

Speaking during the handover ceremony, Rahim Manji, representing The Manji Foundation, said the team moved quickly after the fire incident to ensure that the girls did not remain without secure housing for long.

He confirmed that the project was designed not only to replace the damaged structure but to upgrade it to higher standards of safety and comfort.

“Our goal was to rebuild a secure, improved dormitory so that the girls can continue with their education without fear or disruption,” Manji said.

Manji further revealed that the partners are in the process of installing solar panels to address lighting challenges that arose after the fire destroyed the school’s electrical system.

“We are finalizing plans to install solar panels to ensure the dormitory has reliable lighting. This will enhance safety at night and ease the girls’ daily routines,” he added.

The ceremony drew local leaders, education officials, parents, and community members.

Siana MCA Moses Sikona, commended the reconstruction partners for responding swiftly to the school’s needs.

He noted that the facility plays a vital role in retaining learners, especially girls who travel long distances or come from vulnerable households.

School Headmaster James Sikona echoed the sentiments, adding that the new dormitory would greatly improve the students’ security, well-being, and academic focus.

The newly unveiled dormitory features improved sleeping areas, enhanced safety features, and stronger structural components designed to prevent similar incidents in the future.

With the facility now operational, Irbaan Primary School expects a more stable environment for its female learners, enabling them to concentrate on their studies.
