The Labour Court has awarded Sh1.672 million to Nyali Primary School deputy principal Tony Ongugo for breach of contract.
This was after Justice Monica Mbaru found that Ongugo was forced to leave his place of work after being exposed to a hostile and unsafe working environment, leading to his unprocedural termination.
The court ruled that the Mombasa Parents Club failed to address his concerns and placed him in an insecure environment justifying his search for alternative employment.
Ongugo reported threats, vandalism, and a break-in at his office and police assistance was sought. Justice Mbaru held that Ongugo’s termination was wrongful and awarded notice pay and compensation.
The further dismissed a Ksh930,000 claim by the school for salary and equipment
