Kibabii University has suspended Semester One learning following disruptions caused by an ongoing lecturers’ strike.

Kibabii University has suspended all teaching and learning activities for Semester One of the 2025/2026 academic year following disruptions caused by an ongoing industrial action.

In an internal memo issued by the Office of the Registrar (Academic Affairs), the University Senate said the decision was reached during its 83rd Regular Meeting held on Monday, November 3, 2025.

The Senate noted a “slow uptake of teaching and learning” as a result of the strike, prompting a temporary suspension of academic activities with immediate effect.

“The Senate resolved to temporarily suspend teaching and learning for Semester One of the 2025/2026 academic year with immediate effect,” the memo stated.

However, the directive exempts students in Technical, Vocational and Educational Training (TVET) programs and those in Fourth Year at the School of Nursing, who will continue with their studies uninterrupted.

All other students have been instructed to vacate the university premises by Tuesday, November 4, 2025, at 12:00 noon.

The University Senate and management have expressed appreciation for the students’ understanding and cooperation during the disruption period, assuring them that updates on the resumption of classes will be communicated through the university’s website and student portal.

The memo, signed by Dr. Jackline Okumu, the Registrar (Academic Affairs), and stamped on November 3, 2025, underscores the administration’s efforts to manage the effects of the industrial dispute while maintaining academic integrity.

The temporary suspension is expected to affect most faculties, with only a limited number of programs continuing as scheduled. The university has not provided an official timeline for the resumption of normal academic activities.
