Tambach Teachers College holds historic first electronic student elections

Students at Tambach Teachers College cast their votes electronically for the first time, marking a new era of transparency and efficiency in student leadership elections.

Students at Tambach Teachers College have successfully cast their votes electronically to elect new student leaders in what has been described as a historic and transparent election process.

The institution introduced the electronic voting system for the first time, allowing real-time broadcasting of results and enhancing transparency and accountability in the student electoral process.

Students praised the system, saying it marked a significant step forward in combating electoral malpractice.

“This is the fairest election we’ve ever had. The system prevents rigging and ensures everyone’s vote counts,” said Faith Kipkoech, a student at the college.

Another student, Janet Ruto, noted that the new method saved time and resources compared to the traditional manual voting process.

“We finished voting and saw the results immediately — no long queues or delays,” Ruto said.

College officials commended the students for maintaining peace and discipline throughout the exercise, saying the smooth process reflected their maturity and commitment to democratic values.

Student leaders in Kenyan colleges play a crucial role in representing and advocating for the student body, bridging communication with the administration, and fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment.

Their responsibilities include promoting student welfare, addressing academic and social concerns, organising activities that enhance unity, and helping students develop leadership and life skills.

The new leaders are expected to continue strengthening collaboration between students and the administration while promoting Tambach Teachers College’s values of integrity, excellence, and service.
