Busia deputy headteacher found guilty of sexually abusing pupils

A primary school deputy headteacher in Malaba, Busia County faces sentencing after a court found him guilty on Friday, October 3, of committing indecent acts against his pupils and exposing them to pornography.

The man was convicted on four counts of committing indecent acts with minors and one count of promoting a sexual offence by exposing a child to pornographic material.

According to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), the offences included masturbating minors, showing them pornography on his phone, and engaging them in sexually suggestive conversations, all during school hours and within the school compound.

The conviction was secured after 13 witnesses, mainly boys aged 14 to 17, testified that the teacher repeatedly abused them inside classrooms.

Their accounts were corroborated by forensic analysis, which confirmed the presence of pornographic content on the accused’s mobile phone accessed during the period in question.

The defence team attempted to have the case dismissed by challenging the witnesses’ credibility and alleging procedural irregularities and coaching.

However, the court dismissed these claims, stating that the core allegations remained credible and unshaken.

The ruling emphasised that minor inconsistencies in dates or the absence of physical evidence do not invalidate the testimony of children.

With the guilty verdict delivered, the court has set October 16, 2025, as the date for sentencing.
