A 31-year-old Junior Secondary School, (JSS) teacher tragically lost his life in a fire incident on Tuesday evening in Kapsita village, Molo, Nakuru County, after suspected gas explored setting the house on fire.
According to the reports, the deceased, who taught at Chesingele Comprehensive School, was alone in his house when a suspected gas cylinder explosion sparked a blaze that gutted the entire structure.
His body was burnt beyond recognition, with nothing salvaged from the inferno.
According to the neighbours, the teacher had earlier been seen picking vegetables and onions from a nearby garden, presumably to prepare supper. Minutes later, thick smoke and flames were seen engulfing his house.
“We saw smoke and rushed to help, but the fire was already too strong. The area is not easily accessible, and we couldn’t do much,” said Alice Muthoni, a neighbour.

Witnesses believe the teacher may have fallen asleep while food was cooking on a gas stove, triggering the explosion.
“It’s painful to lose such a young and dedicated teacher. We suspect he left the sufuria on the gas and dozed off,” added Mary Njeri, another local resident.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene after the fire had already consumed the house. The body was later moved to Molo Sub-County Hospital Mortuary.
The incident has sparked fresh outrage over the state of disaster preparedness in the region, with residents and local leaders calling on the Nakuru County Government to act.
“We can’t continue losing lives because of poor planning and inaccessibility. We need proper roads, fire stations, and trained personnel to respond swiftly to such emergencies,” said area youth leader Peter Kiplangat.
Police have launched investigations into the incident to determine the exact cause of the fire.
