Four Maseno University students were slashed and robbed near their hostel as insecurity cases rise in Kisumu.

Four Maseno University students in Kisumu were attacked and injured in a violent robbery outside their hostel, police reported.

The incident occurred on the night of Monday, September 22, 2025, when assailants on a motorcycle, armed with pangas, slashed the students and robbed them of mobile phones.

The attack happened as the four walked near Imani Hostel, leaving them with deep cuts, including head injuries.

Police confirmed that two suspects carried out the assault before escaping. The victims were rushed to hospital where they remain in stable condition. A team of detectives has been dispatched to pursue the attackers.

Student leaders condemned the rising insecurity, saying learners are increasingly targeted by thugs for valuables and cash. They demanded urgent action from authorities to protect the student community.

Meanwhile, in Turbo, Uasin Gishu County, police are probing a separate case where a suspected robber was lynched in the Huruma area. Residents reportedly prevented officers from accessing the scene and later stoned the suspect to death a few meters away.
