MMU launches hostel project, pathway upgrade to boost student welfare

Multimedia University of Kenya (MMU) has unveiled two major projects aimed at improving student welfare. The institution has commenced repairs on the muddy pathway connecting Rongai to the campus and launched the construction of additional hostels.

The announcement was made by MMU Council Chair Dr. Albert Kochei, who said the projects will address long-standing concerns on safety and accommodation.

For years, students struggled with the poor state of the pathway linking the University and Rongai. During rainy seasons, the route became impassable, forcing many to walk along the busy Magadi Road. With heavy trucks, matatus, and private vehicles competing for space, students faced daily risks of accidents.

The rehabilitation works now promise a safe and dignified passage. Once complete, the upgraded path will ease movement between Rongai and the campus, hence improving safety.

At the same time, the university has broken ground for the construction of 2,520 new hostels. The project is expected to ease the perennial shortage of accommodation that has forced many students to seek costly or insecure rentals outside the institution.

According to the University, the new hostels will provide affordable and secure housing, strengthening student welfare and creating a conducive learning environment.

Dr. Kochei said the developments reflect MMU’s goal of transforming into a premier institution driven by innovation and inspired by technology.
