Construction of facilities at Nyamira University in Kiabonyoru has started, says Kisii University VC

Residents of Nyamira County have been asked to construct good houses near Kiabonyoru and its surroundings to accommodate the students of the forthcoming Nyamira University.

Kisii University Vice Chancellor Prof Nathan Ogechi said that his University was given a full mandate to oversee the growth of the upcoming Nyamira University as its constituent campus for the three years it will take to reach completion.

“We have started building classrooms for teaching, but there are no hostels invested in house construction and planting of more vegetables to accommodate the students who will come from far and will be buying food to boost their economic living.”He said.

The VC who revisited the site at Kiabonyoru Secondary school, where the University is, said he was impressed with the ongoing work on the ground being supervised by the military.

Ogechi said that once the classrooms are ready, the University will start admitting its first batch of students, who will join the four proposed schools: the School of Agriculture and Natural Resources, the School of Information Science and Technology, the School of Education and Human Resources, and the School of Business and Economics.

He further said they were supposed to start with three schools only but decided to add one to reach four to enable them accommodate the big number of students who usually seek admission in the stretched spaces of Kisii University.

“Our work is to deliver quality services so we look forward to working with communities peaceful as we better the education sector in this country,” he said.

Saying that the start of the university was overdue because of wrangles anong residents on its location,he assured parents that harmony had been achieved and assured them of safety of their 4000 pioneering students in the four schools of the new Nyamira University
