Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa has awarded Ksh. 20 million worth of full university scholarships to 81 needy but bright students across the county under the Barasa Jamii Scholarship Programme.

To date, the initiative has supported 227 students with a total investment of Ksh. 101.7 million.

Governor Barasa stated that education remains central to his development agenda, vowing to ensure that no student in Kakamega misses out on opportunities due to financial hardship.
In addition, his administration has set aside Ksh. 180 million in bursaries for secondary school learners across the county’s 60 wards.
The Barasa Jamii Scholarship Program is viewed as a timely intervention amid the rising cost of higher education in Kenya, offering a lifeline to disadvantaged families while helping to build the country’s future professionals and leaders.
The ceremony was attended by Access Kenya officials, led by Country Director Dr. Anthony Mutevane, as well as MCAs, parents, and the beneficiaries.
