Former Chief Justice (CJ) David Maraga has accused the Ministry of Education of rampant corruption and asked for its leadership overhaul for the smooth service in the education sector.
The CJ who was speaking at his Nyamira home when he received a delegation for his quest for the seat of president in 2027, alleged that between 2021 and 2024, the government lost more than Ksh7.9 billion that was disbursed as capitation funds to 33 ghost schools without the MoE noting nor correcting the mess.
“How could all these monies be channeled to wrong ends without those charged with taking care of the government’s being aware?” He asked.
He condemned corruption which he said is rife in the country and attributed it to a ring held theft culture in the country which has taken deep root with impunity.

The CJ appealed to President Ruto to stand firm and ask the judiciary to arrest to implicate those swindling the government money be forced to return to help the wanting states of Primary and secondary schools’ infrastructure in the country.
“President Ruto is an educated and intelligent man, the problem is that he has wrong people surrounding him.” He said.
He further asked youth to be in the frontline towards correcting the ills in the country by embracing quality education which will enable them to be respected for any national matters they will raise instead of engaging in hooliganism which usually leads to death.
