NYS launches nationwide recruitment exercise for lecturers and technical instructors

The National Youth Service (NYS) has started a nationwide recruitment targeting lecturers and technical instructors in a wide range of disciplines.

The recruitment seeks to fill vacancies under Civil Service Grades (CSG) 9 to 12, offering opportunities in over 40 specialized fields across engineering, agriculture, hospitality, ICT, fashion design, and business studies, among others.

According to the advertisement which featured in My Gov. the 19th August 2025 edition, NYS is hiring Lecturer I and II, as well as Technical Instructor III positions. Applicants must be Kenyan citizens who meet the academic and professional qualifications outlined by the Public Service Commission, including a Certificate in Computer Applications and compliance with Chapter Six of the Constitution.

For Lecturer II roles, the Service is recruiting in eight fields, including French Language, Secretarial Studies, and Entrepreneurship. There are two vacancies each in Business Management, Hospitality, Human Resource Management, Fashion and Textile Design, and Supply Chain Management. Successful candidates will earn between Ksh34,420 and Ksh46,120 monthly, with benefits aligned to civil service standards.

The NYS is also advertising 38 Lecturer I positions across 22 fields  including, Agricultural Economics, Animal Health Science, Civil & Structural Engineering, Quantity Survey, Food Nutrition and Dietetics, and Commerce Marketing. Fields with two openings include Mathematics and Computing, Agriculture, Finance and Accounting, Economics, Statistics, Information Science, Aeronautical Engineering, and Architecture.

Three slots are available in ICT, Automotive Engineering, Electrical & Electronics, Mechanical Engineering, Building Construction, Horticulture, and Agricultural Engineering. Salaries for Lecturer I positions range from Ksh41,420 to Ksh57,230, with additional allowances and coverage under the Social Health Authority (SHA).

In the technical category, NYS is recruiting instructors in General Agriculture, Animal Health and Production, Food and Beverage, Mechanical Engineering (Plant), and Business Management, among others. There are eight vacancies each in Building and Construction, Electrical Engineering, and Diploma in Mechanical Engineering.

Other advertised fields include Irrigation and Drainage Technology, Horticulture, Catering and Accommodation, Secretarial Studies, Carpentry and Joinery, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning, Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy (Cosmetology), and Plant and Services Engineering.

Applicants are required to complete the PSC.2 Employment Form (Revised 2016) and submit it alongside a detailed curriculum vitae, certified academic certificates, testimonials, and a copy of their national ID or passport. All documents must be enclosed in a sealed envelope clearly marked with the job title and delivered to NYS offices by 1st September 2025.
