Shock as bitter constituent twists MP’s arm over alleged unfinished school project in Kisii

Bomachoge Borabu Member of Parliament (MP) Obadiah Barongo is nursing pains at his rural home after his arm was twisted by unidentified man for alleged failure to renovate and equip Nyamecheo Boarding Primary School in Magenche Ward.

The report says that the attacker pretended to greet the MP at the podium, but later twisted the lawmaker’s arm an act which prompted a quick intervention of the security.

MP Barongo was accompanied by his Bomachoge Chache Constituency counterpart Alpa Miruka and Kisii County Woman Representative Donya Aburi to help in the fundraising for Nyamecheo Catholic Church development when the unexpected attack took place.

“The assailant meandered into the podium and shook hands vigorously with the MP. We thought it was normal greetings but when we saw it was meant to hurt Mheshimiwa we rose and acted to protect him from further harm,”Said the security man.

The exact motive behind the attack could not be established immediately whether it was planned or it was coincidental.

Residents from Magenche ward who spoke to Education News said the attack was a manifestation of dissatisfaction on education development projects undertaken by the MPs NG-CDF office.

They blamed the office of sidelining the Ward in funding the schools infrastructure construction as compared to other three wards of Bokimonge,Boochi and Bombaba Borabu.

They cited the completion of Nyangeti,Metembe,Kenyenya and Kenyoro Primary Schools centres of excellence all at Bokimonge ward at the expense of other wards.

MP Barongo confirmed being attacked.

“I am feeling pain but it is not all serious at this time. I can’t comment whether it was an attack or an accidental greeting,” he said.

Kenyenya Sub county Commissioner William Kibet condemned the behavior by residents in the public gatherings and promised to investigate the matter.

“We have heard of unethical behavior in the gathering but we have not confirmed it to make an official report.” He said.

Bomachoge Chache MP Alpa Miruka called for peace and unity among the residents and urged them to cooperate with their MP to enable them realize meaningful development from the government.
