Malava Boys thrashes national champs to lift volleyball regional trophy

Malava Boys from Kakamega County proved their volleyball prowess after trouncing regional and national volleyball heavyweights Namwela Boys High School from Bungoma County in the Western region’s volleyball semi-finals and Butula Boys in the finals.

In a dramatic and battle of the titans match that attracted huge crowd of spectators considering the two teams have all it takes, the showdown came to an end after a long battle –set of blow against blow seeding Malava boys to secure a spot in both the regional and national stages.

The high-stakes clash saw momentum swing between the two sides as Namwela took the opening set 25-19, asserting their dominance early.

In a twist of event the now rejuvenated Malava Boys domineered the second set recording 25-16 only to be given a dose of their own medicine again by Namwela in the Third set with 25-16 but Malava was not done yet and with impressive teamwork and resilience they bounced back to win the fourth set again at 25-16 before tightly and professionally sealing the deal in the fifth round with a commanding 15-7 win shattering the dreams of one of the East Africa’s most formidable teams.

Their clashing with Butula Boys from Busia county was more or less of the earlier results as Butula took the lead in the first set with 26-28, and Malava dismantled the second set with 25-21, the third set saw Butula claim their space at 25-19, before Malava sealed off their opponents fate in the fourth and fifth sets where they recorded 25-20 and later 15-2 to clinch the regional trophy.

Malava Boys is the new WESSSA region volleyball champions and are proceeding to the nationals and hopefully east African games.

The chief principal Dr. Aliva Luvaso could not hide his excitement and so did the whole school was dance and pomp as the team was welcomed back to school in style.

“We have bounced back to our former selves in terms of being volleyball champions and we are hopefully we are bringing the East African trophy home this time round.” He assured.
