Teaching fraternity across the country are reeling from shock after Kisumu East Member of parliament Shakeel Shabbir dressed down teachers of St Peters’ Kendu secondary school, infront of parents and their learners.

An agitated Shabbir is heard threatening teachers those he described as TSC teachers of dire consequences. He goes on to instruct area MCA to watch out on teachers.

What irked the teachers who jammed Education News digital platform, is the audacity of the MP calling in front one of the teachers and admonishing him on how he was standing.

“The MP had the stamina to do that because TSC during Dr. Nancy Macharia’s reign became so weak and involved politicians in running teachers affairs,” said Dorothy Chesanya, a teacher from Nyanza region.

Towards the end of Dr Macharia’s leadership at TSC, politicians and senior government officers allegedly dominated employment, transfers and promotion of teachers contrary to the TSC Act.

The behavior was witnessed during the formation of Board of Management of both Primary and secondary schools in a number of counties across the country.

Some members of parliament are said to have warned the head teachers, principals and sub county directors of Education of unspecified actions if their men and women are not included in the school boards.

It is reported that up to now, some sub counties have not inaugurated school Boards as a result of political interferences.

Teacher unions across the country so far have demanded for an immediate apology from the MP or face the wrath of the teachers. They further said that they have absolute trust in the new desperation in the TSC as far as sticking to the act is concerned.
