Chaos and controversy rock Eldoret regional volleyball games

Final Boys volleyball, St Patrick's Iten( EMC) vs Cheptil( Nandi)

Drama unfolded at the ongoing Rift Valley Regional Volleyball Games in Eldoret as accusations of player ineligibility and poor weather disrupted the tournament’s final stages.

The much-anticipated girls’ final between Cheptalal Girls and Kesogon Secondary was postponed due to chilly weather and will now be played on Saturday at 8 a.m.

Meanwhile, Cheptalal Girls and St. Patrick’s High School–Iten sparked uproar after filing formal complaints against their opponents for fielding ineligible players—a move that reshaped the tournament bracket.

Cheptalal successfully challenged Kosirai Secondary for including Chepngeno, a libero who had transferred recently and had not completed the mandatory 90-day waiting period as required by Ministry of Education rules.

Kosirai, who had earlier eliminated the South Rift champions, saw their title dreams dashed, while Cheptalal smiled their way into the finals.

In the boys’ category, St. Patrick’s Iten also raised a red flag against Chepsaita Boys, alleging a similar breach. Their appeal was upheld, allowing Iten to progress. They are now set to face Cheptil in a high-stakes final.

The Rift Valley showdown will conclude on Saturday, with the winners advancing to face other regional champions in the national competition.
