The National Parents Association (NPA) has called for speedy investigations and action taken after the recent revelation of sexual grooming in one of the country’s premier national schools, Alliance Girls High School, stating that the saga has raised many concerns among parents on the safety of their children in schools.

Speaking to Education News, the NPA National Chairman David Silas Obuhatsa stated that the Association is shocked following the revelation if indeed it’s true, calling on the government through relevant authorities to urgently investigate the matter and the truth be known to parents and to the general public.

“Nobody is allowed to sexually molest minors in our schools on assumption that the learners don’t understand the difference between good and evil done to them.  What is being talked about at Alliance Girls is a matter that requires urgent and thorough investigations to establish the truth behind the whole saga. This will pave way to action being taken against those involved,” said Obuhatsa.

He added: “National Parents Association is urging the government to move with speed, investigate the allegations and table the plain truth to the parents whose learners might have gone through the terrible experiences.”

The Association, at the same time is demanding for total justice to all the affected parents and their children.

“We want stern action taken against all found capable of having been involved whether knowingly or unknowingly. The river must take its course with the culprits facing the sharp edge of the law, and serve as an example.” He said

Obuhatsa reiterated that schools are meant to be safe place for children since parents have entrusted teachers as professionals, adding that with this kind of revelation, it will be hard for parents to send their children to such schools if action won’t be taken to those involved.

“Does it mean that some of our teachers are not actually Professionals in training? Alliance Girls High school is one of the most highly respected schools in Kenya and even internationally. Nobody would think of the school being associated with these powers of darkness. This is one of the institutions that many parents love associating their children with but with such bad character, how will its future look like?  As an association of Parents in the Country, we are demanding that no stone should be left unturned until the whole plain truth is on the table and not under the table,” said Obuhatsa.

“It might be very hard for any junior school grade 9 parents to send their young innocent learners to such senior schools. It’s unfortunate that some of our own teachers instead of training our children to grow up as persons of sound and good moral character and positive values, they are the ones instilling evils in our children. We want learners in all basic learning institutions fully protected by the law against any forms of abuse,” he added.

Basic Education Principal Secretary Prof. Julius Bitok on his official X (formerly twitter) account on July 10, 2025 condemned the revelation calling for the arrest of the teacher, adding that they stand with learners, parents, and the public in ensuring that every school remains a safe, secure, and dignified space for all children.

Prof. Bitok noted that the government through the Ministry of Education is implementing a zero-tolerance policy on teacher misconduct, and that any educator found engaging in inappropriate relationships with learners will face immediate disciplinary and legal consequences without exception. He revealed further that the crackdown will extend to all learning institutions in the country.

“I strongly condemn the immoral and criminal conduct by a teacher at Alliance Girls High School, accused of grooming students for sexual relationships. Such behaviour is not only unethical but constitutes a serious offence under our laws. It is a betrayal of trust, a violation of the Children’s Act and an abuse of the sacred duty entrusted to educators,” said Prof. Bitok.

“The Ministry of Education, working closely with the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) and the school’s leadership, has taken decisive action. The teacher will be arrested, and if found culpable through due legal and administrative process, will be interdicted and prosecuted in accordance with the law,” he added.
