Manhunt launched in Kisii for suspect who brutally attacked schoolgirl

Police in Kisii County have launched a manhunt for a knife-wielding suspect accused of brutally attacking a 16-year-old schoolgirl in an attempted rape.

According to the minor’s mother,Gladys Mokeira, she left her daughter at home with her siblings and went to fetch some green maize from the farm to cook for them.

When she came back, she found her daughter on the ground writhing in pain, with three of her fingers chopped off and her left thigh cut with a sharp object.

“I saw the familiar man running away from the scene but could not approach him as he waved  a knife and vowed to hurt anybody who came close to  him,”she said.

The residents of Matieko village, Kitutu Chache South Constituency, rushed  the victim to the hospital where she is undergoing treatment.

The victim narrated how her assailant tried to rape her but he was barred by the long trousers she had on.

“He found it difficult to rape me because of the tight trouser I was wearing, he then chopped off my fingers and pressed a sharp knife into my thigh to make me give in but I remained tough.”said the brave girl.

Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital CEO, Mariita Oimeke said the girl will undergo a thigh surgery and after recovery, she will be required to undergo guidance and counselling therapy to help her heal from the trauma.

Outraged residents of Matieko village described the suspect as a habitual law breaker who  keeps on buying his freedom from the police each time he is arrested.

They are now calling on the Kisii County Commissioner to take action on corrupt officers who take bribes and set suspects free before they can be prosecuted.
