The Western Region Secondary Schools Sports Association (WRSSSA) has today, July 9, welcomed the start of Term II Regional Games, one of the most anticipated school sports events in the academic calendar, set to run from 9 to 12 July, 2025.
With this year’s edition being hosted by St. Peters Boys High School, Mumias, in Kakamega County, bringing together top secondary school teams from across the four counties of Kakamega, Bungoma, Busia, and Vihiga.
Organized under the guidance of the Ministry of Education, State Department for Basic Education, the event underscores the ministry’s commitment to nurturing talent, discipline and national unity through school sports.
The games are expected to attract thousands of students, teachers, education officers and guests, with the Chief Guest being Jackline Kakayi, the CECM for Social Services, Youths, Sports, Gender and Library Services, County Government of Kakamega

On Thursday, 10 July, 2025, the preliminary matches across different sports disciplines will kick off early in the morning. In football boys, the first set of matches will begin at 9:00 a.m. with Osogo playing against Teremi at St. Peters, Ebwali taking on an opponent yet to be decided at Muslim Secondary, Mabunge facing Kibabii at Central Primary, and Emusire clashing with Butere at the Stadium. Later at 1:00 p.m., Osogo will meet an undecided opponent, this time at the Stadium, while Ebwali will play Teremi at Central Primary. Simultaneously, Mabunge will face Butere at Muslim Secondary, and Emusire will go up against Kibabii at St. Peters.
In football girls, action starts at 11:00 a.m. with Brenda playing King’andole at the Stadium, Ibubi going head-to-head with A.B.N at Central Primary, Mbakalo facing Chakol at Muslim Secondary, and Madira taking on Butere at St. Peters. At 3:00p.m, Brenda will face A.B.N at St. Peters, Ibubu facing Kingandole, Mbakalo faces Butere and Madira faces Chakol
Turning to volleyball boys, the day starts at 9:00 a.m. with Namwela playing Vihiga and St. Peters battling Olives, both matches taking place at Central Primary. At 11:00 a.m., Kegoye will meet a yet to be decided opponent at the same venue. Then Malava will face Butula, and Namwela will return to the court to play against Olives, again at Central Primary. St. Peters will play Vihiga at 1:00 p.m then at 3:00 p.m Butula will face an undecided opponent. Malava will face Kegoye at the same time

In volleyball girls, the morning fixtures at 9:00 a.m. include Mwitoti facing Amukura and Tigoi playing against Savana, all at Central Primary. The 11:00 a.m. matches will see Sulumeti take on Bumala A.C, while Mudavadi will meet Lugulu at the same venue. Mwitoti will meet Savana at 1:00 pm whileTigoi will face Amukuru at the same time. 3: 00 pm will see Sulumeti facing Lugulu while Mudavadi faces Bumala. All matches will occur at Central Primary
Netball fixtures begin at 9:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s with St. Clares facing Mukuyu and M.G.K taking on Odiado. Then, at 11:00 a.m., Ibubi will battle Mwitoti while Bukokholo plays against Bumala, all continuing at St. Mary’s.
In the basketball 3×3 boys’ category, matches start at 9:00 a.m. at St. Peters with St. Peters playing Kibabii and Vihiga up against Mundika. At 9:30 a.m., Nyang’ori will face Butula and Bungoma will take on Matunda S.A. The 11:00 a.m. fixtures feature F.S.K playing Kakamega and Kolanya going up against Senende. At 11:30 a.m., Sigalamei meets Mudasa and Mukumu faces Chesamisi, all happening at St. Peters.

Meanwhile, basketball 3×3 girls will also take place at St. Peters beginning at 10:00 a.m. with Sirakaru facing Mukumu and Chakol going against St. Clares. At 10:30 a.m., Nangina will meet Vokoli while A.B.N plays Namawanga. By 12 noon, Butere is scheduled to face Lugulu, followed by Bunyore playing Lwanya. At 12:30 p.m., Tigoi takes on Bumala, and Nalondo plays Samitsi.
The action continues at 2:00 p.m. with Sirakaru versus St. Clares and Chakol facing Mukumu. At 2:30 p.m., Nangina will play Namawanga, while A.B.N goes up against Vokoli. The final set of matches begins at 4:00 p.m. as Butere plays Lwanya and Bunyore takes on Lugulu. Lastly, at 4:30 p.m., Tigoi faces Samitsi and Nalondo plays against Bumala.
This regional gathering is more than a competition; it’s a celebration of talent, teamwork and resilience among youth in Western Kenya. As teams prepare to battle it out for regional supremacy, all eyes are on Mumias as it hosts what promises to be an unforgettable sports festival.
