Kisii County Governor Simba Arati presided over the release of education bursary fund cheques on June 20 at Gusii Stadium.

He said the Shs  245 million will help a total of 41,639 students in secondary schools, TVETs and universities from the 45 wards in the county.

‘Today I am releasing the cheques for the wards around Kisii town, but beneficiaries from other Wards can collect their cheques from the respective ward offices,” he said.

He said that the money was distributed equally among the wards and asked residents not to politicise the matter.

He reiterated the objective of the Education Fund as being focused on providing bursaries to financially disadvantaged learners, including those living with disabilities and orphans.

The governor asked all institutions of learning to guide their beneficiaries on how to use the money profitably by working hard to achieve better grades, which will enable them to secure employment and help themselves and their families.

He told the learners of all levels to avoid drug abuse, sexual intercourse out of marriage and indulgence in unethical use of social media because they will jeopardise their lives.

He asked university students who are on long holiday to shun idleness but instead to engage in constructive activities, such as joining short courses in ICT, to enable them to add value to their academic skills.
