Cardinal Otunga Mosocho High School is the new KSSSA Rugby 7s Champions after beating their arch-rival, Kisii School.

The County KSSSA Term 2 competitions, scheduled at Nyachogochogo Secondary School, were altered one day after the opening ceremony by Kisii County due to heavy rain that made the ground unsuitable for players to compete.

Teams participating in leg balls assembled at Magena and Ichuni Primary Schools in Kenya, while the Ruby 7s for both boys and girls were hosted at Nyamache Boys’ High School in Nyamache Sub-county.

During the preliminaries, teams were divided into different pools and played as follows.

At pool A, Rioma and Bon’gonta equalled at 7:7 as Kisii School and Rioma settled it out with Rioma at 17, but had 17: O against Bongonta.

In pool B, there was Sameta who wrestled with Cardinal Otunga at 7:14, and Sameta at 38:0 but hit Nyachwa at 17:0.

Pool C hosted Nyabigena, who beat Tendere 33:0, and Gesure and Nyabigena at 0:26, while Tendere lost to Gesero at O:12.

Nyamache faced Aypra at pool D with 36:0, but Keromgorori beat Nyamache at 10:7 and walloped Ayora at 40:0.

During the quarter finals, Kisii School showed Nyanchwa the door at 12:0 when Cardinal Otunga told Bong’onta off at 24:12, with Nyabonge cooling Nyamache at 19:7. Still, Kerongorori slapped it on the face at 28:0 to qualify for the semi-finals.

Kisii County KSSSA Secretary Geoffrey Nyantika said that all teams demonstrated a high degree of discipline and sportsmanship, then wished the winning teams success as they proceed to the regionals, which will be hosted in Kisumu County.

He asked teams that did not proceed to the next level to use this meeting to assess their strengths and weaknesses, helping them refine their approach and prepare for next season’s meetings.
