KUPPET leads teachers in mourning Maths educator who died while delivering quadruplets

The late Mrs. Immaculate Akinyi Kirui.

The Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) on Saturday, June 21, 2025, led educators in mourning the late Mrs. Immaculate Akinyi Kirui, a beloved Mathematics teacher at Iten Boys High School, who passed away after developing complications following the delivery of quadruplets.

The union’s Bomet Branch Executive Secretary, Ronald Kiprotich, joined scores of teachers and mourners at Kerundut village in Nyangares Ward, Bomet County, to pay tribute to the late educator described as a selfless mentor and pillar in the teaching fraternity.

“Madam Kirui was more than a teacher but a leader who exhibited motherly qualities as she guided and counselled us in the Mathematics department and the entire school,” read part of a moving eulogy from her colleagues.

The late teacher, who had successfully delivered healthy quadruplets through Caesarean section at Eldoret Hospital in April, developed complications shortly after birth and remained in the ICU until her passing.

Her husband, Wesly Kirui, described her as a loving wife and dedicated partner whose joy of motherhood was tragically cut short.

“My wife was overjoyed by giving birth to healthy bouncing quadruplets, but fate did not allow her to survive and watch them grow,” he said.

Her husband and their two-month-old quadruplets survive, thanks to Immaculate Akinyi. Family members and colleagues prayed for God’s peace upon her soul and strength for the young family she left behind.

During the emotional send-off, Kiprotich took the opportunity to urge the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) to respect the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), warning of possible industrial action if their demands are ignored.

“We have already given them seven days to respond to our demands, but if they fail, we know the best language we will use for them to understand us well,” he warned.

Some KUPPET officials from Bomet County attended the send-off ceremony of the late teacher Immaculate Kirui.

He further lamented the government’s reluctance to fulfil its end of the bargain, saying teachers are tired of being tossed around by their employer.

“We are ready to put down our tools and take to the streets if TSC does not come to the drawing table and honour the CBA. This is not just about money—it’s about dignity, respect, and harmony in the profession,” he said.

As the teaching fraternity mourns the untimely loss of one of their own, KUPPET vowed to continue advocating for better working conditions and standing with teachers in moments of both sorrow and struggle.
