The Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) has issued a seven-day notice to the Teachers Service Commission (TSC), demanding the start of talks for a new Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
According to KUPPET, the union has already informed the Labour and Social Protection Cabinet Secretary, Dr Alfred Mutua, after TSC reportedly failed to respond to a formal letter regarding the proposed agreement.
Union leaders expressed concern that the existing collective bargaining agreement (CBA), signed on July 13, 2021, is set to expire on June 30, 2025. They warned that failure to secure a new deal in time could leave teachers vulnerable in their working conditions.

The new CBA is expected to take effect in July 2025 and cover a period of four years through 2029.
KUPPET officials further threatened to mobilise a nationwide strike and withdraw services if the TSC ignored their demands within the seven-day window.
Speaking during a press briefing in Kakamega, KUPPET Secretary General Akello Misori criticised the Commission’s silence, saying it undermines efforts to improve teachers’ welfare and morale.
