Matunda SA, Moi Girls Nangili and Kipkeikei eye glory as Kakamega county school games begin

A past basketball encounter

Defending champions Matunda SA Mixed Secondary School have concluded their preparations and are set to travel to Mumias, Kakamega, on Wednesday to defend their 3×3 secondary school basketball title.

The boys’ basketball team, coached by Principal Mary Luvanda, has held the title for three consecutive years.

They recently crushed St. John’s the Baptist 21–1 in the Likuyani Sub-County finals held at Likuyani grounds in Kakamega.

In the girls’ category, Moi Girls Nangili defeated Matunda SA 21–5. Coached by Mercy Juma, Moi Girls Nangili will represent Likuyani Sub-County in the Kakamega County secondary school finals.

The competitions are expected to kick off on Thursday, with the girls hoping to dominate the tournament.

Apart from basketball, Moi Girls Nangili will also be represented by their girls’ rugby team, which is the defending champion.

Additionally, six table tennis players from Matunda SA will represent Likuyani Sub-County in the indoor games.

Elsewhere, for the first time ever, Kipkeikei Cherangany Secondary School’s football team has qualified for the Trans-Nzoia County secondary school finals.

They finished second behind Bwake Boys in Trans-Nzoia East Sub-County. Bwake Boys edged out Kipkeikei 1–0 in a rain-soaked match held at Kipkeikei grounds.

Kipkeikei Boys, under the leadership of Chief Principal Joshua Mosiria, are also debuting in the finals for both football and volleyball.

In the volleyball final, Kipkeikei defeated St. Mark’s Boys Cherangany 3–0 at Kipkeikei grounds.

Speaking to Education News, coach Mosiria said his boys are ready to face football giants St. Anthony Boys and St. Joseph’s Boys.

In volleyball, they expect tough matches against heavyweights Andersen and St. Anthony Boys.

“My boys are ready to face the giants on Friday, and I believe they will give their all and possibly make it to the finals, making history,” said coach Mosiria.
