Tension is high in Kapenguria, West Pokot County over rising cases of child abduction, with the latest incident involving a missing 7-year-old boy.

According to witnesses, the boy Brighton Kipyegon was walking with friends in the Bendera area when two women in a white Probox vehicle allegedly lured and kidnapped him.

His mother, Dianah Cheptoo, said all efforts to trace her son have so far proved futile, leaving the family in distress.

“I have traced my son without success. I am now depressed and would like to ask the government to help me get my son,” said Cheptoo, amid sobs.

Residents say the trend has caused widespread fear, with reports suggesting that many foreigners residing in the area lack proper identification documents.

Some locals fear the abductions may be linked to illegal human organ trade.

Kapenguria Member of the County Assembly Richard Mastaluk, who has joined in demanding action, urged police to conduct a thorough investigation and bring the perpetrators to justice. He further called on landlords in the region to properly vet their tenants to curb criminal activities.

“This is the second of such cases in just two months. We cannot allow our children to continue disappearing without answers. The government must act swiftly,” said Mastaluk.

The previous case, also involving a young boy, remains unresolved, with the child still missing.
