Parents in Nandi County have been urged to escort their children to and from school following a rise in reported cases of child abduction in parts of the region.
Nyigon Primary School head teacher Edwin Nyongesa described the situation as alarming and a serious threat to education, calling for immediate intervention from both security agencies and the community.
Addressing journalists, Nyongesa appealed for enhanced security around schools and swift action against those behind the abductions.

He warned that continued insecurity could cripple learning, noting that some pupils were already staying away from school out of fear.
“We have seen a drop in attendance because children are scared. If we don’t act now, this will affect academic performance and school retention,” he said
On matters of school funding, he acknowledged that the government had released capitation funds but said the amount was insufficient to meet the needs of learning institutions.
Nyongesa linked the low funding to the high number of unregistered learners, urging local administrators to assist families in acquiring birth certificates for their children to ensure proper school registration and full government support.
Indeed, the government has released capital funds. However, the amount is too small. This is due to the high number of unregistered learners. I urge local administrators to assist families in acquiring birth certificates for their children to ensure proper school registration and full government support,” added Nyongesa.
Recent incidents have been reported in Kabiyet, sparking growing concern among parents and residents, who are now calling on authorities to intensify patrols and bring the perpetrators to book.
