Kirinyaga residents have opposed the abolishment of the National Government Constituency Development Fund, saying it has improved their children’s education.

Kirinyaga residents have opposed scrapping the National Government Constituency Development Fund, saying that the kitty has positively impacted the county’s education status.

This comes as Members of Parliament have intensified grassroots campaigns as they seek to amend the bill of the NGCDF.

Speaking during public participation at Kirinyaga Central NGCDF and Ndia constituencies, residents rejected calls to abolish the kitty, saying they have benefited from it in their areas.

They say that the fund has supported and improved education standards in the constituencies, giving many students from poor backgrounds an opportunity to get an education.

Kirinyaga Central MP Gacoki Gitari has joined his fellow counterparts in defending the kitty, saying that they will amend the law to ensure NGCDF is entrenched in the constitution.

He says that the kitty has played a critical role in improving schools, security, and other development projects at the grassroots level.

He has called on the Judiciary to stop interfering with the legislative arm of the government. He should not be used to deny Kenyans the right to get services from the NGCDF.

Kirinyaga Central issued a bursary of Sh 60 million to over 10,000 learners from the constituency, while in Ndia, a total of Sh 62 million was issued to 8,000 students in the 2023/2024 financial year.
