Busia County Government, through the Directorate of Climate Change, has successfully installed lightning arrestors at Luchululo and Mungatsi Primary Schools in a move to protect students and the surrounding communities from lightning strikes.

The project which is funded by the World Bank under the Financing Locally-Led Climate Action Program (FLLoCA), Kenya initiative, was launched following frequent reports of lightning incidents in the region.
The installation at Luchululo Primary School covers a 60-meter radius, offering crucial protection during the rainy season.
During a site visit, Luchululo Primary School Headteacher Bonface Wandera, expressed gratitude for the initiative, emphasizing the increased safety it brings.

“This installation will significantly reduce the risks of lightning strike disasters. With the rainy season here, both our pupils and the surrounding community can now feel safer,” he stated.
In addition to Luchululo Primary School, the County has also installed similar lightning protection at Mungatsi Primary School.
The initiative is part of a broader strategy to enhance climate resilience, ensuring that vulnerable communities in Busia are better prepared for extreme weather conditions.
