Nyeri County has officially been designated as the Scout City of the World, marking a historic milestone in its global recognition.
In a ceremony held at the Baden Powell Memorial Gardens and attended by a multinational delegation of scouting leaders; included the signing of two key Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) Nyeri County’s designation as the Scout City of the World and Recognition of Paxtu Museum Outspan as a World Guides & Scouts Heritage Site by the Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga.

Speaking at the ceremony, Kenya Scouts Association Chief Scout, Prof. Jacob Kaimenyi, emphasized the importance of fulfilling the movement’s mission.
“As per our founder’s last wish, we should all strive to be happy and make a difference by leaving the world a better place than we found it,” he said.
Nyeri’s recognition follows a February agreement between the county and KSA, which has since been fully implemented.
Accompanied by Deputy Governor David Kinaniri, the governor expressed gratitude to the World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM) and the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS), alongside their Kenyan affiliates—the Kenya Scouts Association (KSA) and the Kenya Girl Guides Association (KGGA).
The governor also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting the scouting movement and integrating its values into county programs.

Currently, scouting has a membership of over 70 million individuals across 220 countries and territories, reinforcing its impact on youth development and global leadership.
The ceremony was attended by several dignitaries, including World Scout Committee Chair Daniel Corsen and WOSM Regional Director for Africa Fredrick Kama-Kama, who presented an honorary plaque commemorating the occasion.
Also present were County officials, including County Secretary Benjamin Gachichio and Chief of Staff Paul Wambugu, KSA Deputy Chief Commissioner Alice Kihungi and Nyeri County Scouts Commissioner Grace Michuki.
International scouting leaders such as WOSM’s Acting Secretary-General David Berg, European Scout Committee Chair Mathias Gerth, and Interamerica Regional President Ruben Tadeu. WAGGGS Board Vice Chair Mori Chi-kin Cheng and Brazil’s World Scout Bureau Chief Eric Takiy.
