Kericho County has been crowned the overall Rift Valley champions in men’s and women’s athletics at the National Qualifiers for the Term 1 Regional Games 2025.
The county’s athletes showcased exceptional talent, dominating the track and field events over the first two days of the competition.
Kericho County secured multiple national qualifications and currently leads the provisional athletics standings. In the individual events, standout performances included:
- Triple Jump – Men: Gideon Kipngeno of Lesirwo Secondary School emerged as the winner, followed by Kelvin Kipngeno of Nyabangi Secondary School.
- Pole Vault – Men: Ivan Cheruiyot of Chebwagan Boys High School and Brian Kiplangat of Kapmaso Boys High School claimed top positions.
- Pole Vault – Women: Brilliant Cherotich of Gatarwet Day Secondary School took first place, with Noella Cherotich of Sosiot Girls High School following closely.
- 100m Hurdles – Women: Edith Chepkemoi of Lesirwo Secondary School secured first place, trailed by Abigael Cheptoo of Sugutek Secondary School.
Other notable performances included:
- 400m Hurdles – Men: Vincent Kipkoech of Kenegut Day Secondary School.
- 110m Hurdles – Men: Nixon Korir of Cheptenye Boys High School.
- 3000m Steeplechase – Men: Brian Kiptoo of Kiptere Secondary School.
- 2000m Steeplechase – Women: Mercy Chepngeno of Lesirwo Secondary School, Sandra Jepchumba of Sugutek Secondary School, and Deborah Cherotich of Sugutek Secondary School.
- 10,000m Race Walk – Men: Vincent Langat of AGC Liloch Secondary School.
- Discus – Women: Evaline Cheptonui of Litein Day Secondary School.
- High Jump – Women: Faith Chepkirui of Kapchebet Girls.
- Cross Country – Men: Brian Kiptoo of Kiptere Secondary School finished fifth.
National Qualifications
As the competition goes on, additional qualifiers are anticipated, and 15 competitors from Kericho County have formally guaranteed their spots for the National Championships.
