Kenya Power Company Kisii Branch is on the spot over delay to rectify electricity wires connections near Nyaura SDA Secondary School fence that has tilted towards the compound wall of the institution exposing live wires.

This is feared might cause danger to both staff and students when they reopen the school.

Speaking at the at school led by the school Board of Management (BoM) Chairman Josephat Onchoru, they accused the Kenya Power of laxity and appealed to area Kisii Central Ward MCA Wilfred Monyenye to intervene and have the company rectify the sagging wires before they cause danger.

“We have reported this mess several times to the company’s branch office but our requests have not yielded any fruits, and we want the MCA to come for our help,” said Onchoru.

He said that the situation has been worsened by the ongoing heavy rains in the region and feared for the lives of the children when the schools will open unless it is corrected.

A visit to the school revealed hanging electric poles along the school live fence. Vandalised electric gadgets were visible as innocent children played hide and seek along the school compound and in classrooms.

Area MCA has asked parents to restrain their children from playing in the school compound until the electric posts are properly erected to avoid any danger of electrocution.

He promised to take up the matter with the relevant authorities but cautioned the community against vandalising the electrification systems.
